Highest SBB bridge: 77 m, Intschireussbrücke, southwest of Amsteg Gotthard Summit Tunnel: opened in 1882 between Göschenen (north portal) and Airolo (south portal). At 15 kilometers long, it was the longest railway tunnel in the world at the time.

The Treno Gottardo operated by Schweizerische Südostbahn AG (SOB) runs every hour alternately from Zurich and Basel to Locarno. The journey over the Gotthard panoramic route without changing trains to Ticino, through the Leventina, to Bellinzona and Locarno has a lot to offer.

Train tickets and travel information
To travel on the Treno Gottardo, you need a ticket, which you can buy online or at any ticket counter. Travel on the Treno Gottardo is included for GA travelcard holders. You can find the train times in the Treno Gottardo timetable.
Seat reservations are not compulsory, but can be booked for an additional CHF 5. For bicycles that you load yourself, you need a ticket, which you can easily book online.
You have the option of purchasing a bike ticket, a bike day pass (also available as a multi-day pass) or a bike pass for one year. It is not possible to reserve a space for bicycles on SOB trains. You can also take advantage of the luggage service.
