World War I Memorial Trail: Circular hike from Langenbruck
Informationen zur Route
Best Time of Year
Description
The route starts in Langenbruck and leads via Krähegg to Schönthal monastery. (If you want to shorten the route by 15 minutes, you can also walk directly to the monastery via the lightly used road). Via a scenic ascent over Humbelbergli you reach the mountain hiking trail on the ridge. Here surefootedness is necessary (especially in wet conditions), and hiking sticks and hiking shoes with good soles are recommended.
The 3.5 km long World War I Memorial Trail with twelve information panels invites you to immerse yourself in the years 1914–1918. After the trenches at Spitzenflüeli, the path leads over the Chilchzimmersattel to the impressive Bölcheflue at 1100 m above sea level. In clear weather, there is a breathtaking panoramic view over the Central Plateau to the Alps as well as over the Basel region to Germany and France.
On the descent back to Langenbruck, a stop at the mountain inn Dürstel is worthwhile.
