Description
Wooden sculpture trail
Various wooden sculptures on the suggested hiking trails are noteworthy. The local carver and wood sculptor Johann Inniger has created several sculptures on partly standing root stocks on his own initiative. At the bridge at Hostalde, an ibex peeks towards the bridge. Between Bodmen, Teufital, and the suspension bridge, among other things, a life-sized bear stands up, hands fold in prayer, foxes, eagles, and wild boar can be seen, and near the shingle-roofed wooden Grantibrücke, an attentive pair of eagles guards its territory. Those interested in history are recommended to take the return route to Frutigen via Tellenburg to the impressive ruins of a castle complex whose origins date back to the 13th century. Once a baronial castle and bailiwick, Tellenburg was later used as a poorhouse and was destroyed by fire on October 20, 1885.
