Description

An asphalted and nearly traffic-free road leads into the Val Nalps; it was built in the 1960s for the construction of the dam. The incline is nicely even and progress is quick. The exhaust shaft of the NEAT tunnel draws our interest: since 2016, the high-speed trains from Erstfeld to Bodio roar through the 57 km long base tunnel, 800 meters below. On the other side of the Rein da Nalps, we see the alpine pastures of Pardatsch. The alpine path used to lead over this pasture into the valley. Before the old and new paths reunite, we have to pass through a dark, unlit tunnel. There is only one thing to do: bravely walk in, because after a short time the end is visible again. In ten wide switchbacks, we then overcome the last altitude meters over and beyond the dam. We can rest on a bench and let our gaze wander over the lake and the surrounding mountains.

Along the lake, there is still an old tank trail because up until a few decades ago, the military practiced here with tank howitzers. Today, we simply enjoy the peace in this beautiful mountain valley.

The return route is along the same path.
