Description
Where cows and cattle graze on the alpine pastures in the summer around Lauftegg, Herrendürren, and Langdürren, there is absolute silence in winter. A thick layer of snow covers the meadows, and the alpine huts and barns are tightly sealed against wind and weather. Anyone coming up here now is traveling with ski touring equipment or snowshoes. Not far from the marked winter hiking trails, towards Spitzli and Petersalp, lies the wildlife sanctuary. As a habitat for red deer, chamois, snow hare, capercaillie, black grouse, and rock ptarmigan, this area is off-limits to humans from December 1 to April 30. Wild animals need peace to minimize energy loss.
