Description

The municipality of Wynigen is located at the transition from the Emmental to the Oberaargau in the Wynigenberg. At the starting point, the Wynigen train station, the destination Utzenstorf is marked. You leave the village via Schmiedenmatt, cross Alchenstorfstrasse, and after a short stretch on the road, turn right towards the stream. Shortly thereafter, you reach Birchliwald. Upon leaving the forest, turn right onto a field path and later again right on a driving road to the hamlet Wil. Via a field path, then through forest and fields, the route leads to Niederösch. The stately farmhouses are worth seeing. After crossing the village, turn left. Soon you reach the old Bern-Zurich road. The straight line encourages drivers to exceed the speed limit or overtake, so crossing requires caution. Now it continues leisurely and flat on a field path. When you associate Emmental with hills and ditches, you now experience the plain of the lower Emmental. The area is also known as the granary of the canton of Bern. Via a driving road and a field path, you reach the village entrance of Utzenstorf. In a winding course, you arrive at the church. Here Albert Bitzius, the writer Jeremias Gotthelf, spent his youth and vicarage. It is not far to the destination, the Utzenstorf train station.
