Description
In the middle of Aargau, in the Brugg region, where the Aare, Reuss and Limmat unite, lies the Watershed. This unique river landscape has been designated as a floodplain and landscape of national importance. The 172 ha large area is characterized by the freely flowing Aare and Reuss rivers here, but also by human use. Extensive typical hardwood floodplain forests and larger remnants of valuable softwood floodplains can still be found on the islands and in the Auschachen Brugg. With a little patience and a bit of luck, you may encounter tree frogs, crested newts, orioles, nightingales, or kingfishers here. Whether as a hiker, nature enthusiast, athlete, or observer: this unique river landscape has something to offer everyone.
For those who want to enjoy the experience in a limited time, a shorter version of the bridge route is ideal. The path runs through the Aare riverbank protected area, continues to the confluence of the Aare and Reuss, and finally ends in Brugg.
