Description
From the station in Brugg, follow the "Aargau Way" Route 42 through the picturesque old town of Brugg to the customs bridge. From there, the path leads you along the right side of the Aare river to the Mülimatt sports center. Here you leave the Aargau Way and cross the Aare on the new pedestrian bridge to reach Geissenschachen. Following the left side of the Aare riverbank, you continue to the Vogelsanger bridge. The path to it runs almost exclusively through the floodplains directly along the Aare riverbank. On the short stretch that does not run along the riverbank, you might be lucky enough to see water buffalo in the summer months.
You then cross the bridge at Vogelsang. On the opposite side (by the beaver) a short detour to Limmatspitz is worthwhile. So you continue along the riverbank past the beaver first. At Limmatspitz, wonderful views open up and you also find a place that is very suitable for swimming.
Back at the Vogelsanger bridge, follow the Aargau hiking trails onto the first street turning left. Through the Vogelsang district, you reach the railway bridge on which you cross the Reuss on the pedestrian path. On the bridge you have another wonderful view, this time of the confluence of the Aare and Reuss. At the bunker (below the bridge), which once served as one of the defensive positions from World War II, you can learn a lot about the water castle of Switzerland from information boards.
From there, you return slowly to your starting point along the Reuss canal upstream via Windisch. In the area of the Reuss canal, the Romans operated a river port and later in the 19th century, entrepreneur Heinrich Kunz built a cotton spinning mill with a power plant. The factory halls today house the Technopark Aargau for young entrepreneurs. At the power plant, your path leads from Unterwindisch uphill to Windisch, where you walk on a section of the Vindonissa legionnaire's path in the area of Königsfelden and pass the Königsfelden monastery with its famous stained glass windows.
