Description
In the middle of Aargau, in the Brugg region, where the Aare, Reuss and Limmat rivers meet, lies the Water Castle. This unique river landscape has been designated as a floodplain and landscape of national importance. The 172 ha area is shaped by the free-flowing Aare and Reuss rivers, but also by human use. Extensive typical hardwood floodplain forests and larger remnants of valuable softwood floodplains are still found on the islands and in the Auschachen Brugg. With a little patience and a bit of luck, you might encounter tree frogs, crested newts, orioles, nightingales or kingfishers here. Whether as a hiker, nature lover, athlete or observer: This unique river landscape has something to offer for everyone.
The approximately 2-hour bridge route is the best way to experience this beautiful river landscape up close. The route leads you over various bridges and barbecue places, and the playground at Mülimatt invites you to linger.
