Description

The "Goldau Landslide Trail" on Rossberg is closely linked to the tragic September 2, 1806, when gigantic rock masses slid down the slopes of Rossberg over a clay and marl layer, burying 102 houses in the hamlets of Röthen and Goldau. 457 people lost their lives. Today, the area of the Goldau landslide is a cantonal plant protection reserve. In this vast slide area, plants have had a chance to develop that cannot thrive in the usual forest landscape. This includes rare orchid species like the lady's slipper. A hike is especially beautiful in early summer when the orchids bloom.

Along the way on the debris cone, you will repeatedly encounter witnesses of the landslide: huge conglomerate blocks. The first section of the hike, from the station to the height of Spitzibüel, follows the route of the Schwyz high trail.

Notes

So that future generations can also enjoy nature, we ask you to take your waste back home with you. Thank you.
