Description

This hike takes you through open larch forests and over alpine pastures to impressive Walser villages. In Medergen and Sapün, where the Walsers once lived year-round, many richly decorated wooden buildings have been preserved – and they are still inhabited today.

For a small refreshment, a visit to the cozy Walserstube in the Alpenrose restaurant in Medergen is worthwhile. After the descent through the Chüpfertäli, a (culinary) detour to the Heimeli mountain inn is recommended – those who like to linger can also spend the night there.

Before you hike down through hay meadows on the old summer path to Langwies, the former center of the Walsers in the Schanfigg, we recommend a short walk through the village of Sapün. This beautiful Walser village is very well preserved, and you can easily imagine how the Walsers once lived here. Today, Langwies with its districts Strassberg, Medergen and Sapün is a secret tip for all who are interested in Walser culture.
