Description

From the mountain station Ristis of the Brunni cable car, the mountain path leads northwards with a gentle ascent. At Rosenbold, the path from the Brunnihütte joins. (The variant Sessellift Brunnihütte – Rosenbold shortens the day hike by 30 minutes.) Here the view first drifts towards Pilatus and the Central Plateau. Especially in autumn, when high fog covers the lowlands, a magnificent view opens up. First maintaining altitude, then descending slightly, the hiking path winds along the ridge to Spissegg. Here begins the highlight of the first day; the Walenpfad. Almost the entire well-secured path can be overlooked. At point 1890, the Bannalpsee is seen for the first time. After a gentle descent past the goats' alpine farm Oberfeld (goat cheese, organic farm), the wide basin of the Bannalp is reached.

Here there is an option to end the hike. With one of the two cable cars and the PostBus, you can reach the Zentralbahn stop in the valley.

On the Bannalp, there are two recommended mountain restaurants with overnight accommodations: Urnerstaffel and Bannalp, directly located by the lake.

Day 2 begins with the descent to the Hagehütte, where cheese is again available for purchase. Not too much though, as this is where the one-and-a-half-hour ascent to the highest point of the day begins; Schonegg. An extended rest is recommended, as a fantastic panorama opens up once again. Almost within sight is the day's goal - Gitschenen. The descent through the Sulztal concludes the hiking weekend. After a well-deserved refreshment in the restaurant, you can stretch your tired legs on the aerial cableway and then the PostBus. Either by steamboat at Isleten or by train from Flüelen or Altdorf, you bid farewell to the hiking paradise of Central Switzerland.
