Description
Between Gstaad and the impressive Wildhorn lies the mountain village of Lauenen. From here, it goes on foot up to the much-sung Lauenensee. Silence and seclusion are the highlights of this hike. "I believe, I'll go again - to Lauenensee," sing Span in their classic from 1983. Anyone who makes this hike will surely agree with the Bernese dialect rockers afterwards—and return. The path starts in Lauenen (1,241 m above sea level), directly by the Hotel Alpenland. A detour to the charming mountain village is worthwhile: It is characterized by old, well-preserved chalets and its church from the 16th century. After leaving Lauenen, it goes uphill on a path through several woodland sections to the idyllically located Lauenensee. The nature reserve is of national importance and a true place of power. Alpine moorland surrounds the lake. The famous and often sung lake lies in the middle of untouched mountain landscape. It offers views of impressive waterfalls and the imposing Spitzhorn. Shortly before the lake, take the narrow hiking trail to the right and walk around the lake to the right to reach an idyllic fire pit at the rear end. The wooden jetty into the lake invites you to cool off in the not too cold water.
The return path first leads along the other side of the lake before branching off via Im hangene Fang towards Rossfalleschlucht, Rohr-Öy. From there, you pass the Rohr, a beautiful nature reserve with flat reedland. The hiking trail leads back to Lauenen in wide curves.
