Description
Langenbruck is the birthplace of the flight pioneer Oskar Bider and his sister Leny Bider, who was one of the first film actresses in Switzerland. Both died tragically at a young age. In Langenbruck, you encounter their traces at every step. Langenbruck is the only municipality in the canton of Baselland that still has a visitor's tax, a relic from its time as a well-known summer spa town with its heyday around 1900. Later it made a name for itself with its ski jump in Nordic skiing disciplines and today remains a popular excursion destination for families with its solar bob run and rope park. From Langenbruck, you ascend over the ridge of the Helfenberg to extensive pastures at Hauberg, Sool and Kellenberg, where one of the oldest wind turbines in Switzerland still feeds electricity into the grid after thirty years. From there, the path climbs to the scenic Chellenchöpfli - and suddenly a wide view opens up into the Thal Nature Park. The beautiful barbecue site at Hintere Egg nearby offers a resting place, which is also known as the highest point of the canton of Baselland. From here you reach Wasserfallen on the ViaSurprise circular route via a short descent.
