Description

As soon as you arrive in Bad Säckingen, it is worth taking a tour of the picturesque old town, one of the most beautiful in southern Germany. Its landmark is the Fridolinsmünster. The tomb of Franz Werner Kirchhofer, who went down in literature as "The Trumpeter of Säckingen", is located in a niche on the outer wall of its choir. In 1854, Joseph Victor von Scheffel passed on the love story of the commoner with the noblewoman Maria Ursula von Schönau, thus making Säckingen famous throughout the region. Schönau Castle is therefore also known today as "Trompeterschlösschen".

The starting point of this stage of the ViaRhenana is the Swiss municipality of Stein. It has been connected to the German town of Säckingen by a bridge since 1270. With a length of 205 meters, today's structure is the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe.

The next stage of the ViaRhenana is also the most varied. It leads via Koblenz to Bad Zurzach through a beautiful meadow landscape along the Rhine.
