Via Alta Vallemaggia - Stage 13: Cimalmotto-Capanna Ribia

Undoubtedly an unforgettable route, the one that leads from Valle di Campo to cross the ridge and enter the nearby Vergeletto valley. Perhaps one of the most varied of the Via Alta, a perfect succession of open spaces and rugged mountains. A nice hiking path leads to Alpe di Sfii, where a fabulous alpine cheese is produced among the larches. Cross the bridge and continue to Lago di Sfii, which according to Plinio Grossi is so blue that it could contain not only water but also a mysterious mixture of gentian flowers. The next mountain lake is not long in coming, passing Lago del Pezz and ascending the pass, where on the left is Rosso di Ribia, which according to Giuseppe Brenna (author of the Alpine Guides of the Ticino Alps) is wild and prohibitive. After the pass, the sweet arena of Ribia awaits: an amphitheater full of sun and solitude, perched a thousand meters above the narrow Onsernone valley floor.
