Via Alta Vallemaggia - Stage 12: Capanna Grossalp-Cimalmotto

After several days spent among various shades of stone, the scenery today is all about flora: from the vast pastures of the Bosco Gurin Valley to the wetland region of Chummuheij and from the pale hues of the lichens clinging to the rocks to the more intense hues of shrubs such as heather, rhododendron (“Alpine roses”) and blueberries. The trail follows the slope in the direction of Passo Quadrella with the peaks of Ritzberg and Badnall above. On the pass you have a wonderful view of both valleys - Valle Bosco Gurin and Campo Vallemaggia. To the left of the pass, the Kleinhorn can be seen. Alpe Quadrella is very wide and open with a wonderful panorama of the surrounding mountain ranges. Afterwards, however, the trail leads through the forest, which provides pleasant shade in summer. Today’s destination is Cimalmotto, a pleasantly anarchic village built of wood and stone.
