Via Alta Vallemaggia - Stage 10: Rifugio Maria Luisa-Capanna Piano delle Creste

Today's program foresees going halfway around the Basòdino massif, almost reaching 2800 meters. It is the highest stage of the entire trekking. At first glance it might seem an exaggerated plan, but it is actually quite feasible. The first ascent leads to Lake Castel. Behind the Basòdino mountain range, the trail continues towards the next mountain lake, the very blue Lake Nero, and up to Tamierpass, which offers a fantastic view over the Val Formazza with Monte Rosa in the background. The rocky terrain makes Tamierpass ideal for ibex. The descent to Capanna Piano delle Creste is on scree. The Val d'Antabia, where the hut is located, is a beautiful valley surrounded by alpine nature. The current hut was still used for grazing livestock until 1968.
