Via Alta Vallemaggia - 3rd stage: Alpe Masnee hut-Alpe Spluga hut

The day begins with a detour on the Verzasca side of Pizzo Costisc and di Scimarmota, then the track runs through the sunny slope of Poncione Piancascia with its steep meadows, curious goats, and shy chamois. 

Later we turn right to the forest edge, cross several gullies, pass by Alpe Cuasca – with the only well along the route – and aim for the Passo dei Due Laghi. The crossing connects the twin valleys Valle di Coglio and di Giumaglio, while the two lakes, one on each side of the saddle, invite for a break, perhaps even a foot bath or a few swimming strokes. Finally, we arrive at Alpe Spluga. How lovely to reach the hut already in the early afternoon and lie on the meadow there, to indulge in idleness, enjoy the silence, and give unnecessary worries to the passing clouds.
