Description

The path leads past one of the oldest houses in Vals, the "Abersch Hus" (pure roundwood construction). In the Peiltal, you come across scattered farms and "Tachli" (thatched hay roofs) and find lush green hay meadows that transition upwards into alpine pasture land. Rugged rock ledges, numerous waterways, and the floodplain vegetation of the valley floor give the innermost Peiltal valley a special scenic appeal. On Valserberg, you then enjoy the wonderful view of the Passo del San Bernardino as well as the fantastic summit world of Vals and surroundings.

Valserberg is a historic transit route: Until the construction of the connecting road to Ilanz in 1879/80, all goods traffic heading south was handled via Valserberg to Hinterrhein. Legendary are the Valser mountain porters, who mainly carried heavy loads over the mountain in winter. The Valser also drove trade cattle over the mountain to Bellenz (Bellinzona) and Lauis (Lugano) to markets in the south.
