Untersee high path over Mammern
Informationen zur Route
Best Time of Year
Description
The circular hike high above the Untersee leads to numerous viewpoints over the westernmost part of Lake Constance from Stein am Rhein to Reichenau Island. The most beautiful come right at the beginning – after the ascent to the pilgrimage church "Seven Sorrows of Mary". Pilgrims and hikers enjoy the panorama over the Rheinsee together here. At the most outstanding location above the Untersee follows the Hochwacht Mammern. It has been a strategically important observation point for centuries.
Liebenfels Castle (privately owned) once included the historic Stone Table. Neuburg is the most significant and largest castle complex on the southern shore of the Untersee and the best preserved. Today, remnants of the ring wall and foundations of the bergfried remain.
All viewpoints invite you to linger with generous campfire sites.
The hiking trail is not continuously marked. Some sense of direction and map reading skills are therefore helpful.
