Description

In October 2015, the Geophänomene Trail was renovated and new information boards explaining the geological phenomena were installed. The trail leads from the Habergschwänd mountain station via Talalp and Spanegg lakes to the Fronalp Pass and partly runs along the official Sardona World Heritage Trail No. 73. Here you learn how glaciers grind rocks, how moraines form, how local rocks record climate layers, and you find interesting information about caves, the Talalpsee, and the Hellloch doline.

The path between Habergschwänd and Talalpsee measures 2 kilometers. Along this short stretch, rocks with an age difference of up to 100 million years can be found. All formed as deposits on the sea floor. Most of them are limestone rocks. In various places, they contain fossilized former sea creatures, e.g. rudists. Entire "animal cemeteries" can sometimes be found.

A beautiful and adventurous 2-day circular hike results from combining the Geophänomene Trail with the Schabziger Weg.
