Description
Thanks to the favorable altitude with start and finish at Restaurant Turren (1550 m a.s.l.), this winter hiking trail often offers a magnificent view over the sea of fog. After a deep view into the valley basin of Lungern, you hike on the prepared alpine path southwest around the Finsterbüel. In the Chuematt, the open terrain offers an impressive mountain panorama. With a steady, pleasant incline, it then goes to the Luegi.
The path then continues uphill to Breitenfeld, the highest point and turning point of the route. The homonymous, sun-drenched alpine pasture lies invitingly. The huts built close together almost disappear under the roof ridge in deep winter's cold white. In summer, one of the most beautiful and largest high alpine pastures of Obwalden is operated here. Also worth seeing is the small alpine chapel "Maria zum Schnee".
Returning follows the same prepared path. Shortly after reaching the tree line, the restaurant with the train station—the destination of the winter hike—is already visible in the distance.
