Description
From Reconvilier station, formerly called Rokwiler in German, you always head towards Bellelay. Passing the schoolhouse built in the local style with a bell tower, the path leads through the calming Jura landscape. Up to above Saicourt it runs on paved surfaces, afterwards on a good dirt road (from point 863) the shorter way directly to Bellelay. At Rière la Rouge Eau, a detour leads into the forest where you encounter the interesting moorland for the first time. On well-constructed, elevated boardwalks you cross through the moor. Information boards explain the fascinating formation history of raised bogs. Soon, you reach the well-maintained village of Bellelay over a beautiful meadow. Noteworthy is the massive Premonstratensian monastery, first mentioned in 1142, with its remarkable abbey church. The abbey is allegedly the origin place of the Tête de Moine (monk's head) cheese. The Tête de Moine museum has a café and of course, you can also buy the cheese here. From the museum, the path continues towards Genevez and then turns left onto the green-marked nature trail Libell’lay. The trail runs between pasture and the raised bog La Sagne. As the name suggests, different dragonflies can be seen here depending on the season. Multilingual information panels bring us closer to the exciting life of these insects. Up to La Bottière you take the same path back and then always follow the direction to Tavannes. After Le Fuet, you descend into the valley floor, cross the Forêt de Chaindon, and reach the large recycling center. Here, turn left into the forest. Be careful not to miss the junction after about 50 m. Over the crest of Craveçon with good views of the Jura landscape, you reach Tavannes station.
