Description
This hike is located in the municipality of Wald. The municipality was formed on January 1, 2004, through the merger of the former municipalities of Englisberg and Zimmerwald as well as the school community of Wald. In 1915, the Zimmerwald Conference took place here, where about 40 participants wrote the Zimmerwald Manifesto. This is considered the origin of the split between socialists and communists. From the Zimmerwald Kirche stop, follow the signpost for Lisiberg and after a short piece on hard surface, ascend on a field path to the observatory. Here a bench invites you to linger and enjoy the view from Bantiger over the hills of the Emmental to the Bernese Pre-Alps and Alps. The observatory was built in 1956 and, after various expansions, is an important base for satellite surveying and GPS positioning. The facility belongs to the University of Bern and is not open to the public. Then follows another uphill section on roads, field paths, and briefly through the forest to Lisiberg. Here turn right into the Chüliwilwald, then on paths left and straight ahead towards Kühlewil. After leaving the forest, the view opens to Zingghöch. Past the rest area back into the forest, keep first on roads towards Kühlewil, later on a path to Zimmerwald. After leaving the forest, the route runs straight past the school building and down into the village of Zimmerwald. At the Löwen restaurant, turn right on the cantonal road back to the starting point at Zimmerwald church.
