Description
Starting with the first measurement of the earth's circumference in antiquity, old surveying methods and the first maps of Thurgau are presented. The surveying-historically interesting, precisely measured baseline from Weinfelden to Märstetten, the term triangulation, and the question “How is an object measured in the field so that it can be represented on the map?” are also explained.
How do I transfer the spherical shape of the earth onto a flat map? What are national coordinates? How does electronic distance measurement work? These and other questions are answered along the route. In the second part, which ends at the surveying pyramid on the Nollen, determining exact heights above sea level, creating plans using aerial photos, and modern satellite surveying are explained.
