Description
The Thurgau Panorama route starts in Amriswil and initially leads south through the center of Amriswil and then past the hamlet of Räuchlisberg to Hagenwil. There is the historic water castle, partly 800 years old, which houses a restaurant. The hike then continues over the hamlets of Rotzenwil, Blidegg, and Degenau to the Sitter river. Here awaits a special highlight: the crossing with the historic pilgrims' ferry to Gertau. Please observe the schedule (www.hof-gertau.ch/sitter-faehre); if the ferry is out of service, a detour must be accepted.
On the opposite bank, Gertau invites you to stop for refreshments. After strengthening yourself, you walk along a root path through a protected marsh with the five Hauptwil fish ponds, originally created by the monks of St. Pelagiberg monastery. Then follows one final climb up to the forest tavern. Descending through the forest, you will soon reach the hike's end, the small town of Bischofszell with its picturesque old town center.
