Description

One of the most spectacular hiking experiences in Switzerland has been created on Lake Thun. The panorama circular route Lake Thun, which leads over six suspension bridges, adds extra appeal to the Lake Thun holiday region. The bridge over the Spissibach near Leissigen was opened in 2011. A year later the second suspension bridge, 340 meters long, was put into operation: at a height of up to 180 meters it spans the Gummi gorge between Sigriswil and Aeschlen. Further structures will follow in the coming years. The Sigriswil suspension bridge quickly became a major attraction, offering hikers new possibilities even before the other bridges are completed. An example of this is the present short circular hike. Note: crossing the bridge is subject to a fee; as a free alternative the route on the old gorge path is available (see variant 1). From the Sigriswil/Dorf bus stop, you pass the church and reach the suspension bridge. For some people the crossing requires a bit of courage as the structure sways slightly but noticeably when walked on. Additional thrills come from the spectacular views deep down into the Gummi gorge (the name derives from the Celtic word "kumba" meaning depression). From the western bridgehead you reach the little village of Aeschlen, from there up to Tschingel on pastures, and then down back into the Guntenbach gorge on quiet forest paths. At its innermost corner is the Grabenmühle. The original guesthouse offers unusual activities for young and old: gold can be panned at the fountain, trout can be fished in the pond, and various wild and domestic animals roam in several enclosures. You return to the starting point Sigriswil along an asphalted road.
