A bit of Wallis in Ticino

If you see Cimalmotto, you would swear it is a village in Wallis. The architecture of the houses and barns is identical to those in Wallis and does not resemble the traditional building style of Ticino. Near Cimalmotto lies Bosco Gurin, also a village in the Walliser style, where even a Walliser dialect is still spoken.

Overnight stays

In Ticino there are many unmanned huts whose doors are usually open. You can cook your own meal there, often wine, beer, and soft drinks are for sale and sometimes even food items, but don't count on the latter. Payment is made in a kind of mailbox. Information about all huts, both manned and unmanned, can be found on MySwitzerland.com/huts, of course including information about the huts we passed: Capanna d'Alzasca, Capanna Salei, and Capanna Arena.

In the valleys you will find an abundance of hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, and campsites.
