Description

The suggested route leads over the Belvedere Tower, which stands directly at the edge descending into Bergell and offers a spectacular view into the valley. During the summer months, Pronatura presents exhibitions in the tower about the landscape history of Maloja and about changing contemporary topics. A bit of landscape history can be admired "live" in the stone pine forest between Maloja and the tower – there are several well-preserved glacial mills that remind of the glacial shaping of the landscape. Although the Malögin is quite steep, especially at the beginning, wheel tracks have been imprinted into the rock at some points – a sign that the path was probably also used by carts in the past. Below the Maloja Pass, the path (now more comfortable) leads past the ruins of the San Gaudenzio church and the "Torre" above Casaccia.

Path closure

Until the end of summer 2025, the section at San Gaudenzio is closed and must be bypassed with a detour north of the ruins. This extends the hike by about 30 minutes and 60 additional meters of elevation...
