Description
The starting point for the hike over the Hasenmatt to Gänsbrunnen is the station "Im Holz" in Lommiswil. Shortly after the start, the dinosaur tracks at the Lommiswil quarry are reached. The numerous footprints are well visible from the reinforced platform. Several information boards explain the context, and the dinosaur tracks are also featured in the Natural History Museum in Solothurn. The ascent to the Hasenmatt then leads through the colorful beech forest. At the highest point of the canton of Solothurn, the Hasenmatt presents a fine 360-degree panorama. At the summit cross, there is a wonderful view of the high Alpine range. Far below, the Aare flows leisurely through the Central Plateau. The next stop is only a few meters lower at the Bergrestaurant Althüsli, before continuing via Chessel and Rüschgraben to Gänsbrunnen. At the station, the train back to Lommiswil is waiting, making this hike also a perfect public transport route.
