Description
"The idyllic Guggisbergerländli with its villages and hamlets is nestled between Sense and Schwarzwasser in the pre-Alpine region. Guggisberg is known as a beautiful hiking and skiing area with the main attraction being the Guggershörnli" – thus greets the municipal council president visitors on the internet. Anyone who has completed the route will agree with these words without reservation. The area is also known through the folk song "Vreneli ab em Guggisberg." At the starting point at the Riedstätt Post bus stop, head towards Guggisberg. First ascending along a farm road, then on level paths, you reach the village of Guggisberg via the hamlet Sand. The signpost now promises the ascent to the Guggershorn. The last altitude meters over a rocky ridge have to be overcome on a staircase. The panoramic view from the Guggershörnli, as the elevation is affectionately called in Bernese German, rewards the effort and sweat. On clear days, the view extends over large parts of the canton of Fribourg, the Jura, and the Bernese Mittelland. The western peaks of the Gantrisch range are within reach. The route continues down into a saddle and then upward again to the Schwendelberg. Over a long ridge, you reach the highest point of the hike through pastures. Enjoying the view should not be neglected. The last part of the route leads once again through pastures and forest, partly steeply downhill to Riffenmatt. Here, for over 350 years, the annual sheep roundup takes place on the first Thursday of September. After the sheep return from the alpine pastures, they are distributed to their owners.
