The Blindlaui: a green cliff above the Aare

Description
The young Aare has carved out a deep bed with steep sides below Guttannen. The old Grimsel mule track runs through this primeval landscape.
The beautiful historic path to the Grimsel Pass initially leads from Innertkirchen to the distinctive rock block of the Achistein, then through forest and meadows over the Outer Urweid to the Inner Urweid. Continuing with a gentle ascent, you then cross a particularly well-preserved section of the old mule track with many dry stone walls on the mountain and valley sides. Beautiful views of the Grimsel area are enjoyed on the section to the hamlet of Boden. Shortly before reaching the village of Guttannen, there is a special idyll to discover: The Blindlaui is a small green island surrounded by steep mountain forest and the wild young Aare. The meadows and pastures slope steeply and adventurously down to the riverbed, making farming a challenging task. In view of its ecological quality, the charming grass-covered cliff was awarded the cultural landscape prize of the Oberland-Ost region in 2013.
The hiking trail can be best enjoyed when the Grimsel Pass road is closed.
