Description
Tegna, the starting and ending point of the route, can be reached by car or by the Centovallina (Locarno-Domodossola train). The hike begins with a steep ascent, then continues to Castelliere. Located on a rocky spur, the prehistoric ruins of Castelliere were restored for many years up to 2018. This national historic monument contains remains from the Roman era and the Middle Ages. From here, the view of the Maggia and Melezza rivers and Lake Maggiore is fantastic. You descend again to the valley following the Maggia river to Ponte Brolla. The Orrido, an impressive gorge formed by water erosion with a winding crystal-clear river, is definitely worth a look. At Ponte Brolla, there are several restaurants. Following a secondary road, you return to Tegna to catch the Centovallina (train can also be taken from Ponte Brolla).
