Description
The route begins in the picturesque hamlet Tarasp, Fontana. The hamlet lies directly below the castle and right on the Lai da Tarasp, on which there is a “moon,” an artwork by the castle owner and artist Not Vital, to admire. From the bus stop, however, you walk away from Tarasp Castle towards Butia, a small grocery store. Continue past the Catholic church (Tarasp is the only village in Lower Engadin that is Catholic) until you take the climb to the right up to Fontana, Sura. Follow the path keeping right until you enter the forest, and from here steadily follow the path towards “Resgia Veglia” (old sawmill). At the sawmill, you will see a small bridge over the stream “Aua da Plavna,” a beautiful spot. Continue into Val Plavna until, after about 3 km, you reach the destination “Chaldera” and then return along the same path to Tarasp, Fontana.
