Description
The route begins in Innertkirchen, where the Gadmer and Hasli valleys branch off. The first 600 meters of altitude are climbed up to Gadmen, with the ascent running straight through the Gadmer valley without major bends. After Gadmen, the road climbs the mountain in long sweeping curves – reaching "Himmelrank" at 1800 meters above sea level, where the next 600 meters of altitude are gained.
Nomen est omen: where the route almost climbs to the sky, the gradient is demanding but rewarded with a heavenly view. A short stop offers a view through the valley of the kilometers covered back to Gadmen. About 4 kilometers and 400 meters of altitude remain to the Susten pass summit. Passing Bäregg, past Steinsee and the Alpkäserei Steingletscher, one finally reaches the long-awaited pass summit at 2260 meters above sea level. From now on it’s all downhill: first with some long curves to Sustenbrüggli, where the restaurant Sustenbrüggli invites you for a small refreshment before the last section. From here, the road runs straight and steadily downhill for about 10 kilometers. Finally, the route leads over two kilometers in wide curves descending one thousand meters until you reach Wassen, the destination of the route.
There is connection to the PostBus line along the entire route.
