Description
What a spectacular structure can achieve is shown in the Appenzeller Vorderland. Recently, a suspension bridge was stretched over the Mattenbachtobel, and already hikers are coming in droves. This is understandable in a double sense. On the one hand, the delicate wire rope bridge is truly a beautiful sight, and crossing it is associated with excitement and shaky legs. At the same time, it spares the arduous descent and ascent through the gorge, especially since the particularly wild rushing stream after heavy storms has repeatedly caused the hiking trail to slip and become impassable. The bridge connection also has a symbolic meaning: it directly connects the Reformed people of Grub in Ausserrhoden with the Catholics of the namesake neighboring village in St. Gallen.
