Description
Mountain route on the Braunwald local mountain with a fantastic panoramic view over the Gross valley, the Glattalp and the Urnerboden up to the Klausen Pass. This route is challenging and only recommended for experienced, sure-footed mountain walkers without fear of heights.
From the top station of the Braunwaldbahn, take the path towards the first rock barrier: towards Hüttenberg, past the Hotel Cristal, further towards Leglerberg in the direction of Bräch Unterstafel. (About 25 minutes from the village). Before continuing towards Nussbühl, take the branch that leads via "Plänggli" to Brächer Oberstafel. Steep and with tight hairpins, but under shade-giving trees, the path leads in about one hour up to Oberstafel. It takes just under a quarter of an hour to the signpost, which lies above the mountain pond, and further to the next rock barrier: the Bärentritt at the Legler wall. Here the well-made trail helps through the notch of the Bärentritt (exposed sections!), which leads directly up to the flat Lauchboden (2,009 m.a.s.l.). In about one hour you master the steep ascent to Lauchboden.
From Lauchboden the path continues over a steep scree slope up to the Furggele, which starts out harmless but becomes steeper higher up. From Lauchboden, you also calculate about another hour to the Furggele. From the wide Furggele (2,395 m.a.s.l.) you finally reach the spacious Ortstock summit at 2,717 m.a.s.l. over a scree ridge in about 50-60 minutes without difficulty and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the Glarus mountain panorama with Tödi, Clariden and other peaks.
There are two variants for the return journey:
Variant via Gumen: back to Lauchboden and instead of descending the "Bärentritt" take the path via Bützi to Gumen, return via the Gumenbahn.
Variant Bärentritt: from Lauchboden via Bärentritt back to Bräch Oberstafel - village.
