Summer hike on Lake Brienz

Description
From the Bramisegg stop, it goes in a wide arc to Schweibenalp and then down many switchbacks to Giessbach. It thunders and roars from the gorge, and repeatedly you look at the foaming waterfalls. Over 14 cascades and about 500 vertical meters, the Giessbach Falls plunge into Lake Brienz. This first part is impressive but steep and rough, and therefore only suitable for experienced hikers. If you prefer easier paths – and also with children – it’s best to start the hike at the “Giessbach Junction” stop.
There you will find the castle-like Hotel Giessbach. The first inn was built in 1832. After a fire in the 1880s, the present building was constructed. During the war years, tourism dried up. There was a threat of mold, decay, and demolition. Environmentalist Franz Weber, however, saved the hotel and restored its shine and success. By the way, hikers are also welcome to enjoy a coffee on the terrace of the historic Hotel Giessbach.
The hiking trail goes down from the hotel to the lake. Then it mostly runs close to the water, sometimes under expansive branches, sometimes under overhanging rock faces, or even through tunnels. Around Gloota there is a public barbecue area set up in the lakeside forest. But this is not a secret tip, so you cannot claim a fire spot for yourself alone on beautiful summer days.
The path continues along the shore, repeatedly offering beautiful views over the lake. Soon you spot the Snail Island shortly before Iseltwald, and a few minutes later you stand on the peninsula and in the center of the only village on the left shore of Lake Brienz.
