Description

The third day begins with the descent in the morning sun down to St. Antönien. For this, you follow the singletrail parallel to the road over long stretches; only the last few meters to the town center lead over a lightly trafficked road. Now comes the first climb up to Stelsersee. The ascent is a mix of paved roads, gravel paths, and singletrails. Finally, the mountain ridge is reached, and the view from up here over the raised bog plain down into the Prättigau is top-notch. The descent is also first-class, initially leading over silky-soft meadow trails, then switching to a gravel road for a stretch, before transitioning into the super trail down to Buchen. This section is the first but not the last highlight of the day.

Because the Fadärastein still stands as the grand finale. For this, you follow trails along the Landquart river up to Grüsch and then climb the road up to Seewis. Unrelentingly, you continue climbing after passing through the town, gaining altitude on paved roads. Only the last few meters up to the Fadärastein lead over a trail where occasionally you have to push the bike for a meter or two. You've climbed 600 vertical meters from the valley floor near Grüsch, which you now repay in the form of a first-class descent. The first meters along a rock band are steep and tricky; afterward, the path becomes more fun with every meter. Switchback follows switchback; fast, fluid, and fun it goes down to Malans. In the wine village of Malans, it's worth stopping in one of the inns or a traditional wine estate bistro (Torkel) amidst one of the vineyards to toast the past three days. It's only a stone's throw to Landquart afterward. Here the route ends with the return trip by train to Chur or directly home.
