Description

The second last stage of the Via Glaralpina is on the day's program. The hiking trail leads from the Naturfreundehaus Fronalp (1389 m asl) towards Fronalp Unterstafel. At the junction there, follow the path to Hofalpli (1276 m asl), evoking alpine stories and alpine atmosphere. From Hofalpli starts the last alpine hiking trail of the Via Glaralpina. Between Fedensattel and Nüenchamm (1904 m asl) some exposed sections are secured with chains. Nevertheless, one should enjoy the unique panoramic views all around, including the mighty walls of the Mürtschenstock. To reach Filzbach (715 m asl), take the mountain hiking trail to Habergschwänd (1278 m asl).

By the way: In the Mürtschenstock, there is also a rock hole: the Mürtschenloch. This rock window is 11 meters high, 15 meters wide and slopes down to the north. Twice a year the sun shines through it for four days each time.

Those who have hiked enough can use the chairlift at Habergschwänd or take a scooter down to Filzbach. Scooters can be rented at the mountain station.

A worthwhile detour is the Talalpsee. What is special about Talalpsee is that it has no actual inflow or outflow. The glacier once left an impermeable layer of solid rock material in the valley floor, which prevents the water from draining. Rain and meltwater are collected here, like in a basin.
