Description
550 meters of elevation must be overcome in this way, to then immediately steer into the first-class singletrail through the extensive high plateau just behind the pass summit. Later, the first-class trail winds down towards La Punt. But instead of riding all the way down to the village, you take the Engadin high trail slightly above and thus reach the village of Bever.
Now comes the transfer section to Pontresina, for which you follow the bike paths along the Inn and later roll along the Bernina stream to Morteratsch. The hamlet consists of a hotel and the station, but for us it is the starting point for the ascent to the Bernina Pass – which could also be done by the Rhaetian Railway. Those who pedal up under their own power follow the signposted mountain bike route up to the dam of Lago Bianco.
Technically skilled mountain bikers now follow the trail along the west shore of the lake. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace take the route along the opposite shore. At the southern end, the two route versions come together, and the last few meters to the wonderfully situated Hotel Belvédère are on a gravel road.
