Description
After about one kilometer, the path leaves the settlement area of Weinfelden and leads into the open fields of the Thur valley. Through the riparian forest along the Giessen, one reaches the bridge at Amlikon. Since the pilgrimages on the Swabian Way, the Thur crossing at Amlikon was formerly served by a ferry.
The hiking trail then ascends to Leutmerken, passing the small parochial church, first mentioned in documents in 1275 and whose foundations date back to the Romanesque period. The old, small chapel at Weierhüsli also recalls the pilgrimage times. At the hamlet of Griesenberg, a look at the historical “Trülle” is worthwhile before the path leads over the Gessler bridge, opened in 2008, towards Lustdorf.
A short ascent over the Egg leads to the ridge, from which the view opens into the Tuembach valley and far beyond, ending at the Stählibuck. Before descending to Frauenfeld, a magnificent panoramic view from the Stählibuck tower is offered in clear weather.
