Description

The St. Anton circuit begins with a steady but pleasant ascent towards Wald. Shortly before Wald, you leave the main road, which is somewhat busier, and enter a breathtaking landscape full of lush meadows, green forests and traditional Appenzell farms. You’ll soon come to the historically important town of Trogen. Here, the cantonal assembly square with its baroque Grubenmann church, the Zellweger palaces and the Pestalozzi Children’s Village should all feature on your travel itinerary. From Trogen, the route continues along the ‘Suruggen’ range of hills to St. Anton, the highest point of the tour. Here, the vistas extend over the entire Appenzell region and into the Rhine Valley. This is followed by a well-deserved descent to Oberegg, from where the circular route makes a final call at Bischofsberg before continuing on to Heiden.
