Description
The St. Anton route begins with a steady but pleasant climb towards the forest. Shortly before the forest, you leave the slightly busier main road and enter a breathtaking landscape full of lush meadows, green forests, and traditional Appenzeller farms. Soon you reach the historically significant Trogen. Discover the Landsgemeindeplatz with the baroque Grubenmann Church as well as the Zellweger palaces there, or visit the Pestalozzi children's village. From Trogen, the route continues on the “Suruggen” ridge to St. Anton, the highest point of the circular route. From here, the panorama extends over the entire Appenzellerland and into the Rhine Valley. This is followed by a well-deserved descent to Oberegg, from where the circular route continues over the Bischofsberg back to Heiden.
