Description
The route is continuously marked as part of the Weissenstein-Passwang Trail with SchweizMobil number 478. The hiking trail leads through the city center of Solothurn, past the majestic St. Ursen Cathedral. Then romantically through the Verena Gorge. The hermitage at the upper end of the gorge is said to have once served as the dwelling place of Saint Verena. Past the valley station of the Weissenstein cable car, you reach Weissenstein via Nesselboden. The view over the Swiss plateau and the Alps from Säntis to Mont Blanc is legendary. Among locals, an excursion to Solothurn's local mountain is especially popular on days when the Swiss plateau lies beneath a blanket of fog. From the Weissenstein pass summit, you descend to the clock village Welschenrohr, in the heart of the Thal Nature Park.
