Description
With every meter of altitude, every hairpin turn, and every viaduct, it becomes more wintry. Over 350 curves have to be overcome from Chur up to Arosa. The sledding path runs quite straight downhill immediately after the start. It starts at Untersee, which is just under 1700 meters. The route follows the tracks of the red Arosa railway to the Isel reservoir about 100 meters lower. Shortly after, the railway line is crossed. From here it runs in gentle curves along the Plessur River. The route mostly leads through dense fir forests. In the second half, in steep terrain - on the right hand side of the foaming Plessur - lies the huge erosion funnel Blau Rüfi. While the Rhaetian Railway now makes two wide bends, the sledding path leads directly into the area called "in da Brünscht" and to the destination in Litzirüti. Originally settled by Walser people, the place at 1450 meters originally consisted only of individual farms. Today, it lives almost exclusively from summer and especially winter tourism. The RhB runs back to Arosa hourly. Overall, this sledding route is somewhat less fast and is perfect for enjoyment. Also because of the beautiful view: again and again the view is free between the closely standing fir trees to the peaks of the region, including the Schiesshorn or the Tijerfluh. And if the trees block the view, with a bit of luck one or another forest animal can be discovered.
