Description
The Rinerhorn cable car takes about ten minutes from the village of Glaris to the summit. In good weather, you can see as far as the historic Schatzalp from here. On the opposite side of the valley it says: take a seat and take a deep breath – because the 3.5-kilometer-long Rinerhorn sledding run is considered one of the most challenging far and wide. Its curves are exceedingly steep; a lot of steering and braking skills are required. The start is already challenging with a steep section including a tunnel passage: you should get through its entrance and exit unharmed before it becomes a little flatter and the path winds steadily through the fir forest. Below follow more steep sections characterized by spectacular steep wall curves. These continue all the way to the end of the run. Fortunately, the local bus also safely brings sledders home at late hours—especially if you once prefer to leave the steering to someone else.
