Description

The bike route starts in the middle of Sils Maria, at the romantic village square where horse-drawn carriages also wait for guests who want to experience the beautiful side valley of the Engadin with horse power. With the bike you pedal uphill on the carriage road, past the imposing and historic landmark of Sils, the Hotel Waldhaus, which prominently towers over the town on a wooded rocky nose, towards Val Fex. Passing the hamlets of Vaügla and Fex Platta, you reach Fex Crasta, the main hamlet of the valley. In addition to the pretty and historically valuable mountain chapel, there are also two inns here. The many Bovis units of this power place strengthen you for the onward journey. After a short rest downhill, the carriage road then leads uphill again. Always accompanied by the rushing Fedacla, past individual houses through the hamlet of Cristins, you come to Hotel Fex. At the mountain farm Sar Antoni, turn right and follow the alpine road up to Alp da Segl. In the immediate vicinity is also the museum of the Cheva Plattas da Fex. In the past, men from the neighboring Val Malenco mined the well-known Fex slabs in this area in winter through hard manual labor, with which the roofs in Sils were covered. A visit to the restored quarry house and the associated exhibition is definitely worthwhile. The route continues on the alpine path high above the valley floor from alp to alp. Upon reaching Alp Muot Selvas, enjoy the peace and seclusion of the impressive plain of Plaun Vadret, the distinctive valley end and the surrounding glacier mountains. The return journey is on the direct alpine path to Hotel Fex and then from there on the carriage road in a rapid descent back to Sils Maria.
