Description
The signposted snowshoe trail starts at Camana junction. First, you follow about 50 meters on the road towards Camana, then turn left into the forest. The trail winds pleasantly uphill through the forest. Soon you leave the forest and hike over wide slopes up to Innercamana. From there the trail leads in broad loops up to the impressive Camaner huts. As witnesses of Walser alpine farming, they stand lined up like a silver thread in a row. Walking from hut to hut, you enjoy a beautiful view of Piz Beverin, the Bruschghorn, and the Glaspass. Until about 1875, the Glaspass was one of the most important connections from Safiental to neighboring valleys.
Almost at the end of the Camaner huts begins the relatively steep descent to Camanaboda. Just like Innercamana, Camanaboda is a typical hamlet with sunburnt houses as found in Walser scattered settlements. Since agriculture has changed considerably, you also find new, large stable buildings. Earlier, the Walsers moved with their animals from stable to stable and were each only for a short period with their livestock near the residential building. In Camanaboda, a visit to the Safier Heimatmuseum is worthwhile. There you learn impressively how people lived and worked earlier. At the Hotel Camana, you can refresh yourself with homemade delicacies before the final descent to the Mura post bus stop. The descent begins with a road section before the trail on snowshoes continues again and is partly steep.
