Description
Shortly after Schaffhausen, the masses of water at the Rhine Falls, then a tour through the Zurich wine region with its half-timbered houses, idyllic and peaceful lies the Husemersee. Soon the Thur valley plain appears, where vines grow on the sun-drenched slopes.
Viticulture was already known to the monks who founded the Ittingen Charterhouse. It is still quiet in the former monk's houses; the treasures of the Thurgau Art Museum await discovery in the convent. In the distance, the Frauenfeld military training area rumbles; the route leads along the vine-covered Ottenberg through the small town of Weinfelden.
The historic core of Bischofszell appears sober and cool. The canning factory rattles on the Sitter. Golfers also appreciate the green highlands of the Fürstenland with its deep stream incisions before the cyclist’s senses are taken by the busyness of the industrial corridor between Gossau and St. Gallen.
